New York Fashion Week occurred from September 9 to September 13 and showcased the new spring and summer looks of many fashion houses. NYFW serves as a place for fashion designers all over the world to show their skills and for viewers to not only see beautiful garments, but learn about the stories and significant meanings behind them. With September’s NYFW, I felt comfort when viewing the different runway outfits, as they brought about the times when one could dress simply and freely during the warmer months. All of the fashion houses created unique and well-made collections; nonetheless, the following designers produced the most memorable pieces of the week.
América by Willy Chavarria x Adidas:
Chavarria’s collection showcases the clothing of those who built América.

He particularly explores clothing of the advocates for the United Farm Workers movement who fought for better wages and working conditions. He reveals to Highsnobiety, “ I was very much inspired by the movement of people coming together to drive for a better América.” Chavarria additionally sought inspiration in the uniforms of those who work at gas stations or hardware stores. Most of his looks feature boxy, baggy trousers and polo shorts, featuring a set of keys on the belt loop. The simplistic belt cinches the waist, creating a satisfying, balanced proportion on the models. The footwear includes classic black dress shoes with white calf socks. Some of his other looks contrast each other with tighter silhouettes on the tops and short shorts. Noah Lyles, track and field Olympic Champion, also walked the runway with Adidas-branded small athletic shorts and calf socks. The display of workwear in this classy way was so interesting to see portrayed and I can’t wait to see more of what Chavarria creates.

The Artist’s Dilemma by Tanner Fletcher:
One of the most amusing presentations of NYFW was by designer Tanner Fletcher. The exhibition took place in a Chelsea art gallery where visitors would walk through and view the models simultaneously performing small acts, such as “Gym Rat” who was on a vintage stationary bicycle. The garments of the collection were quite elegant, featuring black, medium brown, but mostly mature pastel colors. Some additions included black leather gloves worn by many of the models and extravagant bow ties. This selection presents an excellent sophisticated perspective on modern luxury fashion and is unlike any collection I’ve seen before
Endless Runway by eBay:
eBay presented one of the most sustainable collections ever seen in New York Fashion

Week history by utilizing their own second hand clothing. The collection was curated and styled by Wisdom Kaye, an acclaimed and highly respected TikTok fashion star. The looks included many vibrant colors and a varying array of silhouettes. The best way I can describe the selection was that the pieces reminded me of how people look in John Cirillo’s, “Watching New York,” an Instagram account that features pictures of walking New Yorkers and what they are wearing. Additionally, after the looks were presented on the runway, the garments were immediately available for sale on eBay. Kaye’s styling evokes a representation of what I see each day as a resident of New York City, giving me a sense of familiarity, but also inspiration as to how I can style my own clothing pieces.
This year’s New York Fashion Week has truly shown some innovative spring/summer looks. I am excited to see what trends on the runway become mainstream next year and what more is to come from the selected fashion houses.
