The Road to Victory: Super Bowl LVI

Alex Sperling '22

After an intense football season filled with trials and tribulations, the Los Angeles Rams emerged victorious with a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, gaining themselves a Lombardi Trophy. Super Bowl LVI was hosted at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on February 13, 2022. Rams quarterback, Matthew Stafford finally made it to the biggest game after a 13-year career in the NFL. Stafford was drafted No. 1 pick to the Detroit Lions in 2009, but despite his excellent abilities, never made it to the Super Bowl. However, this year in his first season with the Rams, his luck changed in what was a truly electric evening in sports.

This victory did not come easy, however. The game was close and after Odell Beckham, Jr. got injured in the second quarter, I personally started to lose hope for the Rams. Beckham, Jr. started out strong, scoring the game’s first touchdown, and losing him was difficult on the Rams. However, in his absence, Cooper Kupp, a fellow wide receiver, stepped up to the plate. Kupp was a crucial part of the Ram’s victory, with two touchdowns, including the game winner. Kupp finished off his season not only with an incredible game, and a Super Bowl victory, but was also named the game’s MVP to top things off.

Now despite the Ram’s winning the Super Bowl, it is important to not neglect the stellar performance of one of the NFL’s most notable quarterbacks this season, Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow had an incredible season, completely transforming the Bengals. At only 25 years old, and in only his second season in the NFL, Burrow was able to light up this NFL season. Although the Super Bowl didn’t end in his favor this year, anyone who has seen him play, including the new Super Bowl Champion, quarterback Matthew Stafford, will tell you Burrow has a long and extremely promising career in front of him.

Another key element of the Super Bowl that simply cannot be overlooked is the halftime show. This year's halftime show was nothing short of outstanding. This year was no joke, as some of the biggest names in music took the stage. Hip hop legends - Eminem, Snoop Dog, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar - took the stage. Fans were also treated to the most massive surprise of the night, a surprise appearance by 50 Cent. The musical lineup of the night was loaded with incredible energy, insane vocals, and pure talent. This halftime show was definitely a massive success and an added treat to viewers outside of the already spectacular Super Bowl.

Overall, Super Bowl LVI was astounding. The night was nothing short of completely entertaining, and SoFi Stadium was lit up with insane amounts of energy. Whether you are a Rams fan, a Bengals fan, or don’t follow football at all, no one can say that that wasn’t an incredible game to watch. This year’s Super Bowl had people screaming out of excitement, stress, and pure shock. It was a close one, but in the end, the Rams came out on top, dominating the NFL for this year. The Rams and the Bengals both have bright futures ahead of them, and I expect to see both teams in many Super Bowls to come in the near future.
