Urban Stomp: Dreams & Defiance on the Dance Floor is a new exhibition that

showcases over 200 years of social dance in New York City.  The exhibit spans nearly the whole top floor of the museum and uses various forms of media, such as films, audio, pictures, videos, costumes, and more to show how multiple forms of dance have originated, been popularized, or remixed in the city.

Throughout the exhibit are video installations of dance tutorials spanning from the lindy hop and fox trot to bhangra, dabke, and Jewish/Yiddish dances that are instructed by professionals. The visitors are encouraged to follow the dance tutorials and there is even a dance floor where one can place a record on an interactive DJ turntable and dance to a variety of music genres.  The exhibition was very amusing to view and its interactive nature that encourages people to move and dance allows for people to not only visually, but physically feel the way that dance transcends and unites us all together.
