On April 28th, Asian Culture Club brought back one of Chez Nous’s most loved

traditions: The School-wide Potluck! However, to celebrate the beginning of Asian

American & Pacific Islander Heritage month and uphold the goals of the club, they hosted an Asian Food Potluck that all students and faculty could contribute to. Over 20 Asian countries were represented by dishes either cooked at home or brought from a restaurant. The food included dishes from all over Asia: India, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Iran, and Armenia.

During the Potluck, a raffle was held with prizes ranging from Dunkin gift cards to Jellycat toys; Mr. Vasey even brought out a special Five Guys hoodie given by his brother

Greg Vasey! By the end of the event, over $70 had been raised from just the raffle.

All proceeds from the Potluck including the entrance fee and raffle tickets will be donated to the organization Ainiti. Ainiti is a non-profit hat helps underprivileged girls in South Asia access education and college opportunities through technology. Asian Culture Club decided to donate to this organization because they hoped to amplify the values of Notre Dame and honor the mission of Anne de Xainctonge by educating young women. Ainiti strives to provide these young women with the abilities to shatter the gender inequality that is especially prevalent in underdeveloped countries.

Through the help of the contributors and volunteers, the club managed to raise about

$500, which provides three weeks of training for an entire class at Ainiti. This amount will not only be matched by the organization, but also added to the club’s personal goal of raising $1,000 by the end of the year. The ACC Potluck was not just to celebrate Asian culture and food school-wide, but also to uphold the overlapping values of Anne de Xainctonge and Ainiti in empowering and educating young women!
