Friendship on and off the Field

By Daphne Tsarnas '26

As the school year is coming to a close, the sports at Notre Dame are also consequently finishing up their eventful seasons. In particular, softball has had a very successful run so far, with the team obtaining an excellent record of six wins and more importantly, experiencing a strengthening of bonds among the players. However, besides the passing wins and losses, all teammates can attest to the blooming friendship on and off the field. Through taking time out of already busy schedules for practices and games multiple times a week, the girls have fostered tight-knit relationships, making the time on the field riveting and the time off the field precious. Thea Fletcher ‘26, the Dragons’ skilled catcher, has adored her time as a member of the team and has shared her insights on what it truly means to be a team player:

“My experience this year has truly been amazing. I’m new to the team and even as a sophomore, I feel welcome everyday. This year, the team has been working really hard, and it’s been paying off! We’ve won six games so far. In my opinion, supporting one another as teammates can make or break a team, and everyone here is so kind and easy to get along with. The connections we have made have absolutely improved our playing and have been visible in our games, allowing us to play in-sync and develop our friendships more and more with each game.”

Thea’s experience illustrates how each player contributes not only their skills and technique in terms of softball, but also their encouragement and dedication to the success of the team as a whole. Of course, the irreplaceable moments on the field winning games speak for themselves, but the deep bonds are really found in the late-day practices, rainy games, and pushing each other to perform their best each day. The team made it to the playoffs this season. The bonds the teammates share have extended beyond the game, creating valuable memories and important lessons about resilience, perseverance, and friendship.
