The Inside Scoop on Notre Dame’s Indoor Track & Field Team!

By: Juliana Lozito '27

Now that the fall sports season has concluded, it is finally time for the winter sports. Specifically, indoor track & field is a highlight! Track & field is a sport that involves running, jumping, and throwing events. This year, our team has what it takes to make it the best year ever.

For practice, the team stays at Notre Dame on Mondays and Wednesdays and travels up to the Nike Track and Field Center at the Armory on Tuesdays and Thursdays. At Notre Dame, distance runners run several miles along the West Side Highway in order to build up stamina for their events. At the Armory, the distance runners practice on the track to increase their endurance. Some of the distance events are the 400m, 800m, and the 1500m. However, the sprinters have a different practice. When they are at Notre Dame, the sprinters perform workouts and other exercises to increase core strength and leg strength in order to help with short-burst running. At the Armory, the sprinters practice hurdles, downstarts, and handoffs to prepare them for races and relays. Some of the sprinting events are the 55m dash, 55m hurdles, 300m sprint, and the 4x200m relay.

The Indoor Track and Field team showcased an incredible performance at their first meet of the season! On December 9th, the Notre Dame track team conquered the CHSAA Relay Carnival. Demonstrating the team’s bright future, many of the team’s freshwomen made their mark by securing 10 top all-time Notre Dame records, while the other members achieved personal records! Attached here is the team’s meet schedule, don’t be shy to come out and support the track team as they continue to shine bright and conquer each event!
