The Perfect Place to Visit This Holiday Season

By: Catherine Grace Polatidis '26

As the Christmas season begins, the holiday tension to find gifts for friends and family can be overwhelming. Fortunately, the Union Square Holiday Market is open to all visitors and is the perfect place to find the most unique and memorable gifts for everyone this holiday season.

Open from November 17th to December 31st, The Union Square Holiday Market is full of fun activities, foods and trinkets. Originally created in 1993 by Eldon Scott, the holiday market is bouncing back for the second year since the COVID-19 pandemic, commencing its 30th anniversary with the hope to share the holiday joy once more.

If you are familiar with Union Square, its new festive state will captivate you at every corner you turn. The maze of cheerful stalls covered in Christmas lights and green foliage is the perfect place for a quick after school snack or a shopping spree with friends. The variety of trinkets within the stalls originate from countless different countries. In one booth, you can find Moroccan spices. At another, Froebel stars from Germany are available!

One distinct compartment that caught my attention was an enchanting puppet shop. The magical mini-boutique consists of an abundance of hanging puppets on strings, Pinocchio-style marionettes, and ornamental pull string puppets. The huge assortment of puppets allows endless holiday shopping possibilities for loved ones and peers.

Other highlights within the annual pop-up worth checking out include the multiple food stands spread throughout the market. Here, you can find an abundance of holiday treats from chocolate crepes to apple cinnamon donuts. The friendly shop owners warmly welcome you to try their selection of baked goods and expand your holiday palate as you explore these unique foods which are often featured on social media.

The Union Square Holiday Market is the perfect place to explore a plethora of charming Christmas stalls, to experience cultures around the world, or to enjoy a fun day out with friends. Hopefully the alluring holiday lights and bright festive spirit will be just what you need to finish your holiday shopping and get into the Christmas spirit!
