Glossier: The Story Behind One of the Most Popular Makeup Brands

 By Kaia Scholla

Glossier is one of the most popular and well-known brands in the makeup industry. They have managed to become one of the most loved brands and have gained a cult following since they started in 2014. Created by Emily Weiss, the brand started as a website called “Into The Gloss” devoted to, "Sharing real information with real people, about really amazing products.” At this point, Weiss worked at Vogue as an editorial assistant and created Into The Gloss on the side. In less than four years, she was able to turn this blog into a $400M business.

Glossier is most known for its aesthetically pleasing advertisements, stores, and products. Their innovative and iconic branding has given it a huge following, mostly among Millennials and Gen-Z. The iconic brand is also known for its abundant inclusivity, having a wide range of colors in concealers and foundations, along with using models of different races, ethnicities, and body types. Along with this inclusive ethos, the company listens to their buyers and makes sure to hear all their opinions and visions for the brand. Even more, Glossier makes sure to create makeup and skincare that is good for skin and targets specific needs based on customers' ideas.

One of the brands best selling products is their Balm Dotcom. This lip balm is a fan favorite, and one of their most iconic products. When they started selling these in Sephora, they were sold out for months before you could get your hands on one. This favorite is known by just about everyone and can be seen in the pockets of youth around the world. This popular lip balm is known for being hydrating and nourishing, helping with chapped lips. The Balm Dotcom became popular for its range of scents as well as its colors and, of course, its aesthetically pleasing packaging.

The story of Glossier is inspiring and a true example of the phrase, "if you put your mind to it, anything is possible." Glossier is an amazing brand promoting inclusivity and feminism.
