NYFW: February 2024 Recap

By: Mikaila Rivas '26

New York Fashion Week 2024 introduced the new fall/winter looks of numerous popular and upcoming fashion houses. The fashion shows ran from February 9 to the 14th.  All the collections included special pieces, nevertheless, the following designers, I believe, stood out and caught the eye of many.

LaQuan Smith:

Smith’s collection portrays Wall Street’s female power brokers, or well-connected individuals who are able to effectively influence the choices of other parties. He honors these office sirens through fall colors, especially red and black.  The recurring clothing pieces are classic oversized blazers and trench coats. Various looks contain shiny gold accent garments that compliment the autumn colors.

Luar:

The founder of Luar, Raul Lopez, gained inspiration for this collection from metrosexual men who have an interest in fashion and maintaining their personal appearance. Most models wore a shiny clothing piece, varying from a jacket or pants. The garments appeared in a draped look and the use of fur accents and zebra print throughout the show gave a vibrant feel to the clothes.

Thom Browne:

Browne presented the last show of NYFW with a gloomy and somber production inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s poem, “The Raven.” The poem itself was narrated sinisterly throughout the show by Gilded Age actress, Carrie Coon. The Gothic clothing pieces ranged from fitted to puffy black and white layers with mostly tweed garments. Several models wore headpieces or had their hair styled to portray horns with small black tulle overlaying their face.

NYFW has again shown the creativity and talent of these designers and several more.  Hopefully readers will enjoy these looks as much as I did.
