Halloween at Notre Dame

By Kate Maloney '25

On October 29th, Notre Dame celebrated Halloween with its annual costume contest, pumpkin decorating, and after school festival, which included a performance by the

Chez Nous Steppers. We were so happy to see how many students participated in this fun and exciting event. During the day, classrooms celebrated with lots of candy and Halloween inspired lessons. In Theology, the freshman class learned about how Catholics can celebrate Halloween in a joyful and spiritual way. That Friday was a fun-filled, enjoyable day after a long week of stressful homework and tests. It was a great way for students to have a fantastic time, be with their friends, and show Chez Nous spirit.

Many students from ND proudly wore their hilarious and spooky costumes. We saw so much creativity throughout the day. There were so many different genres, from scary, to funny, to trendy, and so many more. The winner of the costume contest, Sofia, dressed as the popularly known “little lad” from TikTok. In an interview with ND’s Chez Nous News, she said that her victory was worth the “four years in the making.” There were so many

amazing costumes that some deserve an honorable mention. Some of those incredible costumes were Veronica’s “Red” costume, based on Taylor Swift’s album. Another hilarious costume, that certainly made all of us laugh, were the Thumb Thumbs from Spy Kids. We saw Raven, with her trendy and fashionable Y2k costume, and Hannah with her clever Jake from State Farm costume. Ms. Wakabayashi and Ms. Clarke dressed up in matching Barnacle Boy and Mermaid Man costumes. The students had a lot to say about the contest. After being asked who they thought would win, many said that it was between the Pitbull and Little Lad costumes.

Another event from the festival was the pumpkin decorating contest. My homeroom chose to portray a witch. We were so excited to end up in third place! There were so many clever and interesting pumpkins. There were witches, dragons, and even characters from the

Netflix show Squid Game. Although all the pumpkins were spectacular, the beloved Bernie Sanders pumpkin won homeroom 401 first place. Senior Gabby Mills said that “it feels really good to win, especially as seniors.” The teachers also favored the Oscar the Grouch pumpkin. The creativity of these homerooms was through the roof. They all worked so hard to make their class and homeroom teachers proud with the help of one another's different skills and hard work.

Notre Dame couldn’t have had a better Halloween celebration after a long year of being apart. My favorite part of the celebration was definitely the costume contest. It was so amusing to see all the creative and hilarious costumes that everyone put together. Everyone seemed to be having so much fun. They were all so excited to show off their incredible costumes, pumpkins, and Halloween spirit. A huge thank you to all the teachers and staff for making this day so special for everyone. On the behalf of all Notre Dame students, we are all so thankful that we can be together for a Halloween celebration after two whole years of isolation! Teachers and students alike worked hard to make fantastic high school memories.
