“Hidden Charms” Around Notre Dame

By: Scarlet Kelly '26

Are you looking for a spot to grab a quick bite after a long day at school or a coffee to keep your eyes open throughout the day? Well, now you can add these three places to your list.

My friends and I have been on the hunt, looking all over the Meatpacking District in the hopes to find eateries that are both inexpensive and of high quality.

The first place that we discovered is a cute little crepe truck named “Crepe It”, located on 12th St and 9th Ave, right behind the school. My friend ordered the “Triple Threat,” which is a crepe loaded with strawberries, bananas, and Nutella, costing around $10. We thought that it was delicious and was definitely worth the price. The crepes are also massive, practically the size of my head, and so depending on your appetite, it could be big enough to split.

After getting the delectable crepe, my friend and I spotted another food truck called “Olivella’s Neo Pizza Napoletana,” just down the street. This spot has a more unpredictable schedule, but the price for food and customer service made up for it completely. My friend helped the woman who owned the truck by turning it on and earned herself free garlic knots, which were very tasty, along with any drink of her choice. When we came up to the truck to order a pizza another day, the woman proceeded to tell her coworkers that we were “her girls.” The cheese pizza that we got was only 5 dollars for what could be converted into two whole slices. The crust was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was very flavourful.

The last place that we tried is my personal favorite. It is a cozy coffee shop named “Kobrick Coffee” on 13th St and 9th Ave. The decor and overall atmosphere of the place felt very comforting. I ordered a vanilla latte that cost me around $6, which is about the same as Starbucks’ pricing, just a block away. This drink was quite frankly one of the best lattes I've had; it wasn’t too strong, but it didn’t feel like I was drinking a bag of sugar. My friends also tried their pumpkin spice latte and a piece of banana bread, which both looked good and tasted delicious.

These “underground” places hold many unique qualities while still being inexpensive and convenient to Notre Dame and the Chez Nous Sisters. I strongly suggest everyone go and try out these different shops because they are most certainly worth it.
