Making the Most Out of Quarantine

By Julia Hasou '21

Do you feel unmotivated more than ever now that you're at home?

Here is some inspiration for getting through this quarantine...

Just because we are all practicing social distancing doesn’t mean it’s time to spend all day scrolling through social media on your phone. Don’t worry, I’m subject to falling for it too, but it’s time for a switch. It is important to look at this situation as a time of change, a challenge, an opportunity to create a new routine that brings you joy even through these tough times.

For example, you can create a clean, organized space around you, so that you will be glad to wake up to your surroundings. This is also an occasion to practice more self care, to do things we usually wouldn’t have time to do and that we have left in the back of our brains. Now is the time to bring them forward, to grab paper and a pen and write everything you have ever wanted to do but never got a chance to. Now that you have time for self-reflection, look inward for inspiration and learn more about yourself. This situation can cause anxiety and stress, but there are numerous resources to find peace, even through a new hobby or a calming activity. In fact, with all this time on our hands, there are so many possibilities on what to do and engage in, such as painting, reading a book, journaling about favorite memories, doing indoor physical activity, calling a friend, doing a hair mask, painting your nails, or starting that blog you’ve always dreamed of. You can even learn a new language or become an expert of a subject that you are passionate about.

More time calls for new opportunities. We are home under terrible circumstances, but this is still your life, and you can still make the most out of it. Dealing with anxiety and sadness at this time is understandable, and doing the things you love or finding a new relaxing hobby can truly help with these feelings. Lastly, let’s focus on what is still positive in our lives: our passions, our renewed climate, those who work tirelessly to keep us safe, our families and friends, and all the things we can be grateful for, even during these challenging times.

Stay safe and healthy!
