Notre Dame 2021 Turkey Trot

By Megan Groo '25

On November 9th, 2021, the Notre Dame Fitness Club launched the first-ever ND Turkey Trot: a Thanksgiving themed run to raise money for a local food drive. The students met in the Commons, changed, and dropped off their backpacks before heading to the front steps of the school to begin. Ms. Hassan organized everyone and gave a brief introduction

before the trotters took photos and began running. The route wound through the West Village along the Hudson River. The timing seemed perfect as the sun was bright orange and made the river sparkle as they ran past. Over 20 Notre Dame girls in orange Turkey Trotter t-shirts were a sight to see, as they jogged around the Village in a pack. There were high spirits all around, and everyone was motivated by Ms. Wakabayashi’s music playlist. The pace was comfortable for all, and runners of all skill levels were able to enjoy their time. The run was not only enjoyable but inspiring. Many students showed up ready to participate in the 1-mile run, but after running for a while, they collectively agreed to run for a little longer. They ended up running nearly 2 miles. Several participants mentioned that running in such perfect weather and at a perfect time had encouraged them to begin running on their own. As this run has been such a success, there is a possibility of another themed run later in the year! The

Turkey Trot run, despite debuting only this year, was so popular and well-received that it seems very likely that it should become an annual event. Dear Fitness Club, thank you!
